Multiple Disadvantage Day

Multiple disadvantage - male with hood up, head down.

Multiple Disadvantage Day reminds us that vulnerability is rarely singular and often not immediately visible. Not through ignorance, but because our own lives can sometimes shield us from the realities faced by others.

Today is an opportunity to recognise the experiences of people living with multiple, overlapping challenges often at the same time such as homelessness, mental ill health, substance use, trauma, and contact with the criminal justice system. These experiences rarely exist in isolation, yet services and systems are too often designed as if they do.

Real change begins when we acknowledge the complexity of people’s lives and recognise that how we respond in moments of contact can make a lasting difference.

Awareness is the first step, but action must follow.

That action starts with curiosity, followed by a compassionate response and the ability to work flexibly, so that systems and organisations come together to provide joined‑up support.

Trauma‑informed, compassionate approaches aren’t optional; they are essential if services are to genuinely work for individuals. Everyone’s circumstances are different, and so are their needs.

At aneemo, our vision is an inclusive society where everyone has equitable access to housing, health, and social care. We work towards this by supporting professionals to build understanding, confidence, and compassion when working with people facing multiple disadvantage.

As part of this, we offer a grant‑funded course on Improving Access to Services for Clients Experiencing Multiple Disadvantage, developed in partnership to support cross‑sector professionals to better recognise and respond to co‑occurring needs. It’s one of the ways we aim to contribute to greater awareness and more joined‑up, trauma‑informed practice.

Because if we want better outcomes, we must keep learning, listening, and acting.

This course is available to everyone — register today and start your learning journey.
